Avoiding Nervous Jitters at the 1st TEE

"Only the prepared speaker deserves to be confident." -  Dale Carnegie, writer, lecturer.

If that's what works for public speaking, it plays out and does wonders on the golf course. The place to practice is not in public when you're on the course in the middle of you game.

Your 1st tee nervousness has a greater chance of vanishing if you take time to warm up. Warming up will mentally prepare your self-confidence. Take some practice swings. Stick to an established routine. Use a club you are familiar with.

Focus on your target and have a great game. Relax, focus on your target and have a great game.

Your golf swing is what drives your score higher. There is no one correct putting grip/posture/stroke and the pros use different techniques. But they all have great creativity, hand-eye coordination and balance.

Most of the great golf tips come from searching the swings of great golfers.  Non-professionals put the tips into their memory and often get confused or fall into bad habits.

The truth is, every person is unique. Does it make sense for you to copy someone else's swing?  Is there a way to have a golf swing you can absolutely trust? Yes to both questions. Golfers can practice
various golf swings using tips they've received and work them out until they feel comfortable. Find what works for you, refine it and stick to it.

In a pressure situation, can you have a guaranteed swing that will allow you to hit good shots each and every time. Take time to master the principles you need to know to make consistent, high-percentage shots.

"I don't think there's any such thing as setting your goals too high.  The higher you set your goals, the more you are going to work.  If you don't reach them, then it's OK, just as long as you set it and then give 100% of yourself." - Dan Jansen, speed skater
