Easily Turn one nickel into BIG money
Everyone knows that putting is where the low golf scores and golf-hustling money are made. On a par 4, if you hit a good drive, get on the green and then 3-putt, what do you have? A bogey, that’s what.
Here’s a great drill you can practice at home using nothing more than your putter and a nickel.
On a hardwood or flat, tile floor, put a piece of tape where you can imagine the cup to be and set up a nickel on its edge so that it is aimed at the “cup”.
Working from various distances practice until you can putt that nickel on a straight roll to the taped spot. This will teach you to roll your ball with great control from the center of your putter, (no more skipping or off-line putts!)
I know it sounds simplistic but the control gained in just a few minutes practicing this easy drill for a few days will jump you light years ahead of even putting hundreds of balls on the putting green.
Now, I just want to tell you a true story about how much better this drill can make you and what fun it can be to get real good at it. I make a pretty good living as a salesman, but I’ll never forget how being good at this one drill added over a months’ salary to my bank account in 1 night.
I had just lost a $1000 Nassau to one of the better players at a private club on Long Island who according to a friend, was always looking for some action and also likes to drink. He offered to buy me a few drinks after our round, which I readily accepted but stayed with club soda, knowing he was about to get loose and try to win some more money from me.
As I’m an above average putter, he got around to asking me what my secret on the green was and I said I was just naturally adept, or lucky I guess. I then pulled out my nickel which I used as my ball marker and bet him that I could putt it longer and straighter than he could.
He could not resist the challenge and we were soon in the ballroom of the clubhouse where they hold weddings, each of us with our putters and a nickel in our hands and about a half-dozen brokers, doctors and other degenerates with wads of cash witnessing the action.
Because I had been practicing putting a nickel straight and long for years, and to my knowledge, no one else had been, I walked out with over $20,000 in cash, taking on all comers that night.
I tell you this not to brag but to show you the power of this drill and give you some insight into taking advantage of a loose bettor. I’ll have more to say on both of these subjects in upcoming lessons, so get ready!
Until then, thanks for reading. Good luck, good hustling.
